Durak - Classic Strategy Card Game

The game uses a 36-card deck (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K, A in four suits). One suit is randomly designated as the trump suit, displayed at the bottom of the deck. The attacker plays a card face-up on the table. The defender must beat it by playing a higher card of the same suit or any trump card. If the defender succeeds, both cards are discarded. If they fail or choose not to defend, they must pick up all cards on the table. After each bout, players draw back to 6 cards from the deck. The last player with cards is the loser (Durak).

Winning Strategies for Durak: Trump card management is the single most important skill. Count how many trump cards have been played and which ranks are still alive. If you hold the highest trump card remaining, you effectively control the endgame. Don't waste trump cards on early defenses unless absolutely necessary—low-value trumps are better saved for the critical final rounds when the deck is empty and every card in your hand matters.

Attack sequencing should pressure your opponent's known weaknesses. If you've observed they lack a particular suit, attack repeatedly with that suit to force them to use trump cards or take damage. Get rid of low-value cards (6s, 7s, 8s) early in the game while the deck still has cards; being stuck with small cards in the endgame when you need high cards to attack or defend is a recipe for becoming the Durak. Pay attention to which cards your opponent picks up from failed defenses—this tells you exactly what they're weak against. Know when to pass as the attacker. If you have a strong hand and your opponent just took a big hit, passing lets other players continue the attack, potentially forcing the defender to take even more cards. But be careful—if the defender successfully beats everyone's attacks, you've lost the initiative. Balance aggression with hand preservation.
